Laura Landon is an interesting regency romance author. Some of her romances tend to be Christian in nature, and she weaves in some great bits of wisdom. This is especially the case with A Love for All Time. She has lived a full life that includes teaching music and even dishing up delicious ice creams before discovering her love of penning swoon-worthy tales.

A Love for all Time is a historical romance novel set in 1864, later than your typical regency romance. It still encompasses all of your favorite regency-related on-dits, such as the carriages, horses, garden strolls, and tea time. Furthermore, it is a high society novel about a mix of people from the ton and war heroes.

The novel has Christian elements to it that make it even more charming. First off, there are mentions of God, praying, and an overall theme of forgiveness that leads to a good moral message.

You may not get this impression from the beginning, though, when you are taken aback by the bitter, drunken man who plows down a lady in the streets with his horse.

But after reading that line, you have probably guessed it correctly, they are the hero and heroine of the story.

Lord Quinten Beckham, Earl of Rosemont, better known as Quinn to his friends and soon-to-be family, is the new Earl after the death of his brother. His brother and brother’s wife have both passed away and left him with two nieces and debt up to his ears that the estates, nor a spy like himself can pay outright. He only has two options. Sell everything not entitled or marry an heiress. He is opposed to the latter, so he goes with the former until he plows an heiress down with his horse.

Lady Cassandra Worth’s grandmother intends to see her grandaughter taken care of in good hands before she dies through medaling and some spying of her own. After meeting the ex-colonel, she decided the two would make the perfect match, and she was right.

This beautiful marriage of convenience turns into the sweetest of love stories.

Noteworthy Moments from the Historical Romance Novel

At first, you will be quite taken aback by the hero of this tale for his recklessness. I liken him to a modern-day drunk driver, really. But throughout the story, you will begin to like him more and more as he comes to love the heroine and see the value in family. Besides being a drunk driver, though, he also has another side. He is a king and countryman through and through. He is brave and loyal to his country to a fault.

Having just read the book, Seduced by the Scott by Jillion Eaton, I will tell you that this book is in direct contrast with A Love for all Time in many ways. For instance, in Seduced by the Scott, Brynne the heroine, isn’t told the condition of the very run-down estate she will be taking charge of and that they lack the funds to repair it. It causes a large disarray in the marriage. In A Love For All Time, Cassie, the heroine, is told the state of the estate before she arrives. It has been left without a woman’s touch for quite some time and needs repairs. They have the money to do it. In one book, it is a building up of love from nothing. In another, a love already built is torn down only to be rebuilt again.

Throughout A Love For All Time, Quinn repeatedly chooses work over Cassie and the family. This is another similarity to Seduced by the Scott. There are far worse things a man can choose over his family than work, though.

The most hilarious moment in the book is when Quinn is asked by his friends if he thinks Cassie will have a boy or a girl. His reply is:

“From the size of her, I’m afraid Cassie intends to present me with an entire regiment.”

You will have to read the book to see the outcome of this, but it is quite funny and leads to some sweet moments.

Three Star Regency Romance Novel

I hated to deduct stars from this book because, overall, it was a raving success. The book itself is one of the few Christian-themed regency romance novels that I have come across, and it was overall sweet and wholesome. It had such a beautiful marriage of convenience plotline that turned into a shining love story. However, as I was reading, I noted on several pages (15, 160, 170, and 173) that there were issues with quotations or minor typos. Furthermore, the book was a bit repetitive towards the middle.

However, the story was great, and I will be reading more by Laura Landon.

Sweet and Wholesome Historical Romance Novel

A Love for All Time is a Sweet and Wholesome historical romance novel. There is a kiss here and there throughout the book and a few areas that illude to the couple’s intimacy, but nothing is described in detail, only hinted at. It gets two flaming hearts out of five on the steaminess scale.
