CH Admirand grew up in New Jersey. Her about page says she is a believer in love at first sight, which ties in amazingly to her regency romance novel Rescued By the Lyon, part of the Lyons Den series. Her personal love story is absolutely heartwarming. CH talks about how she fell in love at first sight with her husband at 17. She says that they were married for 41 years, which is just the sweetest thing. Sadly he lost this battle to cancer. This inspiring woman is also a grandmother and animal rescuer. After reading her about page, you can really see how her life ties into her writing style.

Rescued by the Lyon gives you that classic pirate regency romance feeling when you start to read it. The main characters are Captain Colin Broadbank, who loses his brother and is transformed overnight into Viscount Moreland. However, he is a sea captain at heart and has all the flare and rough around the edges mannerisms of a regency romance pirate hero.

Typically, the Lyons Den books follow a pretty set rags-to-riches plotline or a Cinderella-styled romance. By this, I generally mean the story’s hero has lost all of his wealth through some unfortunate circumstance. He is seeking out a wealthy bride through the notorious matchmaker of the Lyons Den, Bessie Dove-Lyon, the proprietor. On the other hand, the lady of the series typically takes on the damsel in distress role or a Cinderella role where she is escaping horrid relatives.

This book is a little different because Viscount Moreland is actually very wealthy. He isn’t even looking for a bride when he stumbles over Miss. Gemma Atherton who is there in search of a husband to escape her home life. She comes from a wealthy but stingy home. Her mother died when she was a child, and her father loves money more than her, so she wears old clothes and lives like a servant.

The viscount falls tits over arse for her wit, charm, and uniquely outgoing spirit and decides he will marry her.

However, she will need to be rescued a few times first.

NoteWorthy Moments In this Pirate-Like Regency Romance Book

This regency romance book has a lot of sailor jargon, as the Captain turned viscount is not very well mannered at times. Sometimes the jargon feels slightly over the top or forced within the text. Unfortunately, this is more prevalent at the novel’s beginning, which gives it a plodding start.

It takes much longer to read the first third of the book than it does the rest of it. After the introductory phase of Rescued By the Lyon is over, and the couple is out of the Lyons Den, the book starts to pick up the pace. It becomes pretty great! In fact, the viscount proves himself to be a very fierce, burly protector, which is swoon-worthy.

Steamy Regency Romance Novel By CH Admirand

Rescued By the Lyon gets four flaming hearts for being a steamy romance novel. It has some descriptive intimacy and kissing scenes, but it is not over the top. The scenes take on the same rough around the edges quality that the viscount has in every other book scene.

Romance Novel Rating: 3 Star Romance Novel

It took me several weeks to read this book, and at first, I didn’t think I would finish it. It is one of my first books by C.H. Admirand, and it was decent enough that I might be tempted into reading another one. However, the slow start at the beginning of the book was what made me put it down for a while. However, I am glad I picked it back up because the last part of the book was significant, and the author’s personal story ties in fabulously to the character’s design. Since there are now over 20 books out in the Lyons Den series, after reading so many of them, the recap of what the den is can be a little dry.
