It is finally the day! For the Love of a Scottish Lass launched today! For the Love of a Scottish Lass is a love’s second chance regency romance set in Scotland for most of the book. This is the time-enduring romance between Bennet Bashing, the Seventh Duke of Silverblade, and Bethany MacLachlan. It spans a decade’s worth of time and has five distinctive flashback scenes. I’ve seen the flashback trope done a few times really well in Regency books, and each time I read a good one, I loved it! I wanted to create a flashback-style book, so I did! If you love Love’s Second Chance, second Sons Becoming Dukes, flashbacks, and a Scottish brogue, then you will like For the Love of a Scottish Lass, my second book in the Lord of Seductive Language series.

In my final rounds of editing for this book, I went through and picked out my favorite passages and quotes. Now, for the sneak peek, here are six of them. The entire book is written from a third-person perspective, which is how the Regency Romance Genre is primarily written. The glimpses provided below are all associated with Bennit’s thoughts and feelings.

Beware, there are spoilers ahead!

1.) The Opening Line

“Bashing, the Seventh Duke of Silverblade, smelled the heady aroma of roses before he saw her round the corner. It was a deep psaltery scent that brought back far too many memories of this land. He didn’t hail from Scotland, and the bloody land wasn’t filled with roses, but his time here had been filled with her. And she always smelled of wild pink roses and freedom.”

2.) Details about Book One Hidden in Book 2

“He swore the man was half crazy on the scandalous high that adventure caused him. Montenegro’s story was more than a little rash. He had eloped from England to Scotland to save Lady Annabelle from a disastrous marriage to a much older man. Unfortunately, her brother had funds wrapped up in the previously planned marriage. That left Rodger angry and willing to do just about anything to prevent Montenegro from marrying his sister, even after the marquess secured her hand by kissing her in the middle of a ballroom!”

3.) An Example of Bennit’s Long-Standing Love for Beth

“”It doesn’t matter that I am a duke. I still love you. No matter the scandal it causes, it has always been you for me, Beth. I shant marry anyone else. If you do not marry me, I will forever remain a bachelor.” he vowed, and he meant it. Dukedom be damned for all he cared. He would not live his life in a loveless marriage when he had already experienced so much love with Beth.”

4.) My Favorite “Brooding Bennit” Scene

“Whether by choice or by her father setting up a match, Beth was married and already had children! He couldn’t help but wish the horrible wish that her husband would die, and he could swoop in and have her as his own. But he wasn’t a bad man, so he could not let his thoughts stray in that territory long. With the power that a duke had, he could arrange the whole situation, stage an accident, or something. He knew men that would take advantage of such a power, but he had fought wars, done right by his tenants, and had no desire to stoop so low now. If he became that man and embraced that man within himself, he would not even be good enough to marry Beth afterward. So, he sat there, sipping his coffee and eating delicious scones, trying to rise above his putrid thoughts.”

5.) My Favorite Heartbreak Quote

“This journey would be like laying Beth to rest in his mind. Hearing the horrific details of her love story would certainly be at least one step closer to his healing. Though, from what he had heard, even time didn’t heal a broken heart.”

6.) My Favorite Funny Line

“This may not have been the life he had pictured, him a duke, Beth with a child that wasn’t his, and soon to be a house full of ladies of ill repute. But he wouldn’t have it any other way.”

I had so many favorite lines to choose from; it was very hard to limit it to just six for this post. I will post my favorite lines that are associated with Beth’s thoughts and feelings in a week or so. While Bennit’s thoughts and feelings launch the book, the last lines are from Beth’s perspective, and I like them just as much as the first lines (if not more).

There are some sad, brooding scenes in the text above; however, like the rest of the Regency romance genre, there is a guaranteed happily ever after at the end. If you loved any of these lines, be sure to grab a copy of For the Love of a Scottish Lass to read more!
