Made for the Marquess is the fourth book in the Second Sons of London series by Alexa Aston. Aston writes in several different romance novel niches and has a wide variety of fantastic books that I know you all would be interested in. But today, I will review Made for the Marquess, a swoon-worthy book where opposites attract. In fact, this is a stunning “opposite-attract” series.

Since Made for the Marquess is the fourth book in the Second Sons of London Series, it starts with some backstory and a recap of the previous books to catch new readers up to speed. While some of the books in this series may be a little confusing to read as stand-alone works, this one could stand on its own if you wanted to jump into the middle.

The heroine in Made for the Marquess is Minta Nicholls, a feisty and fun-loving redhead who coincidently also has a twin! She is the yen and yang to the hero, Percival Perry, the Marquess of Kingston. While she is outgoing and excited about the season, even though she is making her debut in her twenties, the Marquess hates socializing in large crowds. Luckily, the Marquess is the neighbor of Minta’s aunt and uncle, and he not only has a slight chance to woo her a little before the season but also kiss her. He was called away from London and there was a bought of friendly competition for Minta’s hand. Unfortunately, he was affected by the war in a burdensome way. So heavy that he had night terrors for a long time afterward.

He felt like a broken man, half of him longed to make Minta his bride, but the other half didn’t think he deserved her. So what does he do? After saving her and being caught in a compromising position, he decides to ruin her and force them to wed. And oh boy, did they wed quickly with a special license. However, this is not the end of their story. Both are love-struck fools, and neither will tell the other as Percy tries to keep his distance from his new bride!

Try it Out

This is a very angsty novel, where the hero is sometimes shy and almost insecure. There is a lot of vulnerability for this male lead. While the female lead has some vulnerability in her character, she is more of a force to be reckoned with: the shy and the strong blend well in this novel. This is especially the case if you like reading about men with insecurities.

If you want to test out this excellent book before making a purchase, feel free to read the first few chapters on the blog!

Noteworthy Moments from Made for the Marquess

If you don’t like spoilers, then skip reading this section because I will let you in on a few of my favorite scenes.

This book is full of fun and noteworthy moments, like the scene where the Marquess purposely angers and rejects Minta to “save her” and let her go. However, he then drinks himself into a week-long stupor and apologizes.

Another powerful moment in Made for the Marquess is when Minta goes into Percy’s room at night after they are wed and discovers him in the throws of a night terror.

Honestly, Aston represents the night terrors in an accurate and respectful way. This is another good note for this book.

One funny part of this book is that now the group is referred to exclusively by “the second sons,” as there are getting to be so many of them. The three women already married to these childhood friends are referred to as “the cousins.” At first, this was a little odd, but then it grew on me, and by the end of the book, it made me laugh.

A Five Star Regency Romance Novel

The Second Sons of London is an Amazing series that roughly mimics the themes of one of Alexa Aston’s other series. So far, this has been my favorite book in the series. It was much lighter than the others, even though it had the hardships of war mixed in. The others had a more profound, almost heavier air about them that made me take a break from the series for a while. However, when I jumped back in with this book, I also grabbed the next one in the series, which is the love story of Minta’s twin because Made for the Marquess was so good. I rate this book five stars and recommend it to passionate regency readers.

Steamy Regency Romance Novel

Made for the Marquess turns up the steam with several descriptive kissing and intimate scenes. It captures the power dynamic between the couple, Percy and Minta. I would give it four out of five flaming hearts on the steaminess scale. The intimate scenes are tasteful.

The Second Son of London Series

So far, I have reviewed all of the Second Sons Series, aside from the fifth one! You can check out my thoughts on the other books:

  1. Educated by the Earl
  2. Debating with the Duke
  3. Empowered by the Earl
  4. Made for the Marquess (This book!)
