Book Review: Daggers Destiny by Linnea Tanner
Linnea Tanner writes historical novels that tend to be more on the romantic side. Typically her work is set in early Brittania and the Roman Empire. She includes a wide variety of historical details in her writing and pulls from the religions of the day to make them more authentic. You will see this influence in Daggers Destiny.
Summary of Daggers Destiny
Page Count: 332
Series: Curse of the Clansmen and Kings, Book 2
Publisher: Apollo Raven Publisher, LLC
Release Date: September 26, 2018
Daggers Destiny is a continuation of the Curse of the Clansmen and Kings series and takes off where book one, Apollo’s Raven, ended.
In Dagger’s Destiny, we see the hero Marcellus and the heroine, Catrin, primarily separated. Only coming together for a brief time when they are formally wedding and then again escaping into the night.
The story follows the pair as they deal with the problems their love has caused. Primarily it has branded them each as a traitor in the eyes of their people.
Cartin is given a second chance if she humbles herself and becomes a warrior for her clan. She also is used as a pawn in a thwarted attempt to get her sister back from the Romans.
On the other hand, Marcellus betrays his people to protect Catrin in the first book and makes a habit of it again in this one. He is further branded a traitor when he goes undercover into the Briitainia clan to try to make peace with them behind his father’s back. He also goes behind his father’s back to try to return Catrin’s sister.
When he is within the clan’s walls, it is not very long until he is captured by one of the soldiers. To bring down the curse inscribed on the dagger (hence the title daggers destiny), King Amren makes some hasty decisions while Marcellus is there. Ultimately these choices end in the “formal” marriage of Marcellus and Catrin. But they also bring about a bevy of unfortunate events. If you hope for a happily ever after romance, you won’t get it in this book. But, it may come later as the story stops abruptly, making way for book three.
You might like this book if you like a little heartbreak, gore, and some troubling times mixed in with your romance. You can read the first six chapters of this book for free to try it out!
Noteworthy Moments from Daggers Destiny
Like book one, the text has many druid and mythological, religious references, and it is set in the first century A.D. Britannia. This is expected because the church had not been established in England. England had not yet been established, for that matter, but the area was primarily considered “heathen.”
Furthermore, there is a lot of raven worship, belief in soulmates, astro-projection, human sacrifice, and more.
For example, Catrin travels in the raven’s body and utilizes astro-projection to save Marcellus several times in the book. One sweet quote surrounding this phenomenon includes:
“Marcellus was her soul mate, and she could sense whenever he was in danger.” Linnea Tanner, Daggers Destiny, Chapter 7
A Three-Star Historical Romance
I give Daggers Destiny three stars. It was a well-written book but very long. It had a lot of violence and gore and was for a mature audience only. You will find many gruesome parts within this book, and it is sad because many of your favorite characters are killed off.

Steamy Historiical Romance
Daggers Destiny gets five flaming hearts out of five on the steaminess scale. There are many descriptive intimacy scenes in this book. However, many of them are lewd.
Where can you get Daggers Destiny?
You can get Daggers Destiny on Amazon via ebook, audiobook, and paperback. It is the second book in the series. We also have the full review on Apollo’s Raven, the first book, if you want to start from the beginning.
I received a free copy of this book to review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
